Did you know that the subway in Qatar will make life easier for the fans watching the competition, living in color? A 221,9 km metro line allowing the access to 8 stadiums in the World Cup is what the fans will have in Qatar in November this year.

The World Cup committee assures that all fans can watch two matches a day, in two different stadiums, if they want to. The greater distance between the stadiums is 55 km with metro lines along the way.

Connection between airport and railway line

In addition to the connection with the main places of the World Cup, the Qatar metro system is connected with the international airport and a railway line that connects six Arab League Member States. The 1.940 km railway will be served by high-speed trains, which reach up to 200 km/h, connecting Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. 

With so many facilities, taking a subway in Qatar is one of the most comfortable and easy way to travel around the country. The Doha metro covers all 2022 World Cup stadiums, as well as many other popular destinations.

Moreover, Qatar metro also provides longer services during the tournament. Some stations will also have parking lots to help reduce traffic during the tournament, including Qatar University, Al Qassar and Umm Ghuwailina. Therefore, travelers can park their vehicles and continue their journeys on the metro where the service is available.

How do I buy a metro card in Qatar?

You can buy the metro card at stations and some supermarkets. You can also save time by recharging it online or in the Qatar Rail app, available for iOS and Android. The Standard travel card costs 10 QR or R$14.19, while the Gold Club travel card costs 100 QR or R$141.76 (conversion based on the September 9th exchange rate).

From subway to buses

Passengers can also opt for MetroLink buses, a bus network that provides first-to-last mile connection to Qatar Rail customers within 2 to 5 km from Doha Metro Stations. And the best of all, the buses are free.

There is another bus system, MetroExpress, which provides free minibuses that transport passengers between stations and nearby locations and can be booked using the same app.
